Stars and Astronomy on the Be Operating System
I bet if you're hobo you always wanted astro application for the BeOS. Charts demo is nothing, remember. We have more detailed and real astronomical software. For example: Stellarium - recently ported to the BeOS, just great, but needs nVidia card. OpenGalaxy - worse, but it's usable. SkyORB is old, but you can view the sky. The world is not only Charts !
We have five projects on the BeOS:
  • SkyORB (dead) - 3D sky charts, 2002
  • Stellarium (port) - 2D /3D sky charts, enhanced by nice graphics - 2005 (requires new nVidia 3D drivers)
  • OpenGalaxy (port) - 2D sky charts - just plain charts, early port - 2005 (recommended new nVidia 3D drivers)
  • OpenUniverse (port) - 3D solar system, enhanced by nice graphics (but more poor than Stellarium) - 2006 (requires ZETA)
  • Celestia (port) - 3D space & solar system, nice graphics - 2006 (requires nVidia 3D drivers)

BeShare and the most wanted...
Every app listed here, you can find on our BeOS p2p (MUSCLE) network - BeShare. The most wanted astronomical application to be ported to BeOS is obviously XEphem (the best linux astronomical program). As far as I know, 3dEyes compiled it on BeOS but it'd errors with LessTif. If you can help in any way - let me know.
